Scholarly Research
Michele is a contemporary painter whose artistic practice is deeply interwoven with her scholarly research into the aesthetics and philosophies that have shaped the history of self-portraiture. Her work explores how women artists, from the Renaissance to the present day, have utilized the self-portrait not just as a means of depicting their physical likeness but as a powerful tool for affirming identity, challenging societal norms, and navigating complex personal and professional landscapes.
Currently pursuing her PhD from the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts, Michele’s research and art making practice work together, to educate and curate ongoing engagement with this topic.
Michele has presented at conferences, and her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums both in the states and internationally.
